The Richard A. Gephardt Congressional Photograph Collection contains images related to Gephardt's personal and public life. The bulk of holdings involve his career as a congressman and related activities. Most photos are amateur snapshots. There are also a large number of professionally shot images in the collection. The collection includes both color and black and white images in a variety of formats as well as a wide range of media including positive prints, negatives, slides, and transparencies.

Born in Saint Louis, Missouri, in 1941, Richard A. Gephardt was first elected to Congress in 1976. He made two unsuccessful runs for the presidency, once in 1988 and again in 2004, and served until that same year.
